Tonight at the Iridium (http://theiridium.com/), the Hot Club of Detroit (http://www.hotclubofdetroit.com/) celebrated Django Reinhardt’s birthday. Reinhardt was born in Belgium on January 23 1910.

Evan Perri is the lead guitar player of the Hot Club, and Paul Brady the second guitar player; Julien Labro plays the accordion, the accordina and the bandoneon (although tonight he played the accordion only); Shawn Coley is on bass and Jon Irabagon is on saxophone (tenor and soprano). Jon Irabagon’s solos, during tonight’s first set, were riveting. Irabagon accompanied the musical ideas of the evening while adding his own virtuosity and fascinating creativity. French singer Cyrille Aimee guested during that first set, and was a really nice fit with the band’s gypsy style. She alternated songs in French and in English. Her voice is captivating.
