Tonight at Dizzy’s, pianist Cyrus Chestnut performed with saxophone player Stacy Dillard, drummer Neal Smith and bass player Dezron Douglas (http://jalc.org/dizzys/events/event/av-124961#.UQNQ1lH_TBI). About 15 minutes after the beginning of the first set, Jimmy Heath also sat in (or rather stood in) for a few tunes. Jimmy Heath’s sound is absolutely delightful – just as much as his sense of humor which shows through his mimics on stage. The band played a wonderful ballad, “You’ve changed,” which was a nice choice given the occasion of Chestnut’s sets at Dizzy’s: celebrating his 50th birthday. Heath also played an original of his based on “Autumn Leaves,” but entitled “Winter sleeves.”

When Stacey Dilan returned to the stage, replacing Heath, the band played “Intimacy,” one of Chestnut’s compositions. The band ended the set with their version of “Love for Sale,” which kind of rocked.

Thank you to Erika Santucci for setting me up!
